The fiber ends are stripped of their coatings, cleaned, and cleaved to create a smooth, flat end.
The fiber ends are placed into a fusion splicer, which aligns them and applies an electric arc to fuse the ends together.
The splice is inspected for quality and tested for signal loss.
The splice is protected with a splice protector or placed into a splice tray.
